  • Phase One

I have just completed the first phase of my Bach project and have played six concerts over the past month or so. A highlight has been performing the 'Great 18' at St. Paul's, where the combination of the fine instrument by Bill Drake, intimate space in the OBE chapel and Bach's music made for a deeply satisfying experience. Audience numbers grew steadily and, by the final concert (which included the canonic variations), extra programmes were printed to accommodate the large numbers. It was a privilege to have a number of eminent organists present for these concerts. I would particularly like to thank Simon Johnson for hosting me and Thomas Trotter for attending my second concert. Also to the many good friends, colleagues and students (you know who you are) who came - thank you. Playing three all-Bach programmes in three weeks was a first for me and was both immensely challenging and rewarding. I'm very happy that I will return to St Paul's next October to play another series of Bach recitals that will include the Orgelbüchlein.
